Well, it’s the mandatory standards, some general standards, and the facilities that a camp ground adheres to. Here is an example of what you, the camper, should be looking for when choosing a campsite in East Sussex:
MANDATORY CAMPSITE STANDARDS
The camp site is clean and safe from hazards
The site is not located near any natural or man made hazards
Rubbish disposal facilities are sanitary, and vermin proof receptacles are used
Drinking water is available from an approved source
Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day
Toilet facilities are clean with flushing toilets
Adequate shelter is available for use during inclement weather
A public telephone is located within ten miles
GENERAL CAMPSITE STANDARDS
Each family site is close to a sanitary toilet facility
Any individual site “hook-ups” meet all appropriate local and state health codes
Adequate and safe facilities are provided for cooking fires and recreational fires
Picnic tables are available
Facilities (toilet, shower, play areas) are available
People with disabilities are considered
